Canada One Family Network Hosts 2023 Lunar New Year Celebration — “Welcoming the Year of the Rabbit”

On January 29 (the eighth day of the Lunar New Year), Canada One Family Network held one of its “Welcoming the Year of the Rabbit” Lunar New Year series celebrations. In partnership with Pacific Mall and with Rogers as the title sponsor, three large-scale Lunar New Year fairs spanning two weekends concluded successfully in a joyous festive atmosphere. Nearly 20 cultural and arts organizations, with over 300 performers and crew members, presented almost 100 colorful performances, attracting about 100,000 visitors to Pacific Mall to enjoy the stage shows and visit over a dozen cultural booths.
The Dazzling “Twelve Beauties of the Red Chamber” Hanfu Performance
One of the most captivating highlights was a Hanfu presentation of the Twelve Beauties from Dream of the Red Chamber. After four hours of makeup and costume preparation at the centre, performers from the Resonance Traditional Culture Society gracefully appeared at the crowded Pacific Mall. Accompanied by poetic narrations, each performer brought to life a character from one of China’s Four Great Classical Novels.
Their delicate makeup, elegant costumes, graceful movements, and poetic expressions showcased the magnificence of traditional Han Chinese attire and culture. As descendants of the Huaxia civilization, understanding and appreciating our traditional clothing heritage is deeply meaningful. Heartfelt thanks to the young members of Resonance Traditional Culture Society for their dedication to preserving traditional culture — truly admirable.
As part of the same Lunar New Year series, the Poetry Recitation Contest concluded on January 29 at 4:00 p.m. on the main stage at Pacific Mall. A grand award ceremony honoured 33 outstanding young reciters.
Ten children, selected by a panel of expert and public judges, received Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards along with cash prizes and certificates. Six participants, chosen through more than a thousand online public votes, won Popularity Awards (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place).
All winners received FOTILE’s Bamboo Classics book set (sponsored by FOTILE) and Pacific Mall New Year gift bags. The event also presented Outstanding Educator Awards to Yangfu Luo , Yuhua Liu, Ms.Sara, and Weiwei Li , each receiving a Chinese Culture book collection donated by Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters) and Pacific Mall New Year gift bags.

Art Exhibition on Display Through the Lantern Festival
The “Welcoming the Year of the Rabbit” Art Exhibition continues at the Bridlewood Mall central atrium until February 5 (Lantern Festival). Nearly 30 artworks with Rabbit-Year themes are featured — everyone is welcome to visit and enjoy them.
