On May 18, 2019, the Canada One Family Network (COFN), in collaboration with the Canadian Multicultural Home Cultural Centre, successfully hosted the Federal Asian Heritage Month celebration at the Splendid China Mall. This vibrant event brought together local writers, media professionals, artists, youth, children, educational institutions, and community members to honor the richness of Asian culture.
Highlights of the Day:
Cultural Performances: The Splendid China main stage dazzled with traditional and contemporary performances by local artists and youth groups, including music, dance, martial arts, and award-winning acts.
Author Showcase: Fifteen local authors, including both Chinese-Canadian writers and authors of other ethnicities with Chinese-themed works, showcased their books in a lively exhibition.
Interactive Booths: Attendees explored summer camp sign-ups for calligraphy, chess, and art, while kids lined up to try their hand at the ancient craft of sugar painting.
Community Engagement: Political leaders, including MP Ms. Jean Yip (Scarborough—Agincourt), Councillor Jim Karygiannis, and Councillor Alan Ho from Markham, joined the festivities, highlighting the importance of multicultural unity.
Special Moments:
Children experienced the joy of learning Go (Weiqi) for the first time at the interactive game booth.
The sugar painting station became a crowd favorite, with kids eagerly awaiting personalized edible art.
